PCA Silent Auction History by Judy Leister
Five years ago I was going to enter Peabody in his first Parade of Champions at PCA. When I heard he had to have a proper poodle haircut I was going to drop the idea because I didn't want to change his look. Then a poodle friend reminded me that a professional ball team shaved their heads in honor of people undergoing chemotherapy. Cancer patients loose their hair in a much more traumatic way so why couldn't Peabody loose his for that short time and collect pledges and put the money to good use. I had gotten acquainted with Jacqui Webster over the internet. I knew she had cancer and had lost all of her hair due to her treatments so Peabody and I went to our very first PCA, he got his hair cut and went in the Parade of Champions. We collected over $1200 for the American Cancer Society. Many who pledged did so in honor of a loved one in the same situation. We did our pledge in honor of Jacqui. The following year I met Charlotte Mitchell at PCA. We put our heads together and the PCA Performance Poodle Silent Auction was born.
